LYSADA has been based at the Dexter Adventure Playground (DAP) site since 1st April 1998. DAP is located on Railton Road the scene of the 1981 riots, and users come from the surrounding estates. LYSADA has strong links with the local community.
The Playground operates as an open access site for local youths all afternoons and evenings, and various youth activities are run from the existing building.
The proposed new building will be used by a wide range of people for an array of activities, and will be developed over time, running services in response to the needs of local children, youths and the community. The centre will be available to agencies for delivery of services and to individuals in the community for special events, meetings and leisure activities.
London ProHelp, a professional pro bono group, has provided a range of legal and business support for LYSADA to facilitate its development.
Hans Haenlein Architects were appointed in April 2005 to help the management team develop the brief and to design the facilities which will include a community centre with multipurpose hall, teaching rooms, social spaces, a cafe, adventure playground and a children's centre.
